    International Islamic Centre for Reconciliation and Arbitration (IICRA) Organizes Seminar on “the Role of Shari’ah Standards in Settling Disputes in Islamic Financial Industry”

    The International Islamic Centre for Reconciliation and Arbitration (IICRA) has organized a seminar virtually entitled “the Role of Shari’ah Standards in Settling Disputes in Islamic Financial Industry” in cooperation with Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) on Monday, dated 28th of March 2022, in order to introduce IICRA in particular and the institutional arbitration at large as an efficient alternative to litigation, while highlighting the distinctive advantages offered by IICRA and its areas of expertise and applications.

    At the beginning of the Seminar, His Excellency Omar Ansari, AAOIFI Secretary General, delivered the welcoming speech and highlighted the importance of Shari’ah Standards as a Governing Law that enables the Arbitrators and experts to resolve the disputes in Islamic economic in a professional and transparent manner.

    On his part, Dr. Rami Sulaiman, CEO of IICRA, in his welcoming speech highlighted the importance of cooperation and integration between IICRA & AAOIFI’s services, especially in the field of dispute resolution through Reconciliation and/or Arbitration

    The seminar was moderated by Dr. Rami Sulaiman, and It was attended by a number of participants from all across the globe, among them were officials, jurists, and industry specialists, businessmen, professionals etc.

    A number of distinguished speakers from both esteemed organizations, who participated in the Seminar were senior Lawyers, renowned Arbitrators and Experts with vast expertise. They are:

    • Prof. Maniruzzaman - Chair in International and Business Law, University of Portsmouth, UK
    • Mufti Mohammad Hassan Kaleem - Shari’ah Scholar
    • Dr. AbdulGadir Warsama Galib – Legal Counsel
    • Prof. Issameldin Abugiseisa, Lawyer, Legal & Shari’ah Expert
    • Dr. Suzanne Mounir Abdallah, International Arbitrator
    • as well as Dr. Walid Hegazy - Deputy Chairman, AAOIFI Governance & Ethics Board

    The panel discussion addressed the challenges facing the Islamic Financial Industry, and the best solutions to overcome these challenges. The discussion also highlighted the need for developing professional cadres specializing in all disciplines across the globe.

    Given such a huge turnout for the Seminar and the high audience demands, IICRA shall conduct the same Seminar in Arabic language in the Month of Ramadan.
